
Will the Sky Fall?--an allegory, set in an imaginary land, about Kathryn, a child haunted by nightmares of a great light which falls from the night sky and consumes the earth. One day she discovers a ragged boy named Vincent, hiding in her house. Even though they are from enemy countries, the two children discover they suffer the same dreams, and together they journey to find out who makes the Death Lights which could destroy their world. They encounter many hazards through river and desert (finding help from a cougar, a hawk, and a mysterious Lady). In an underground complex, they discover a surprise about their own fathers' occupation and the price of technology. This story is aimed for children aged nine to twelve, and perhaps even teenagers and adults. (approx. 17,000 words)
Keeper of the Sea--about Sharene, the last mermaid, who journies through oceans to the Land to save the polluted seas. The whales and fish guide her, and eventually she lands on a beach at sunrise to meet Wil, an oceanography student. Together with his professor, the wife, and a little girl named Kristen, Sharene tries to convince Techcorp (a major polluter) that fish, children, and the future rate higher than current fiscal profit. After many land trials and surprises (including being kidnapped and rescued), Sharene decides to leave the ocean and become a land-person, to better help the sea. This story is for ages eight to ten (and beyond . . . ). (approx. 17,000 words)
Tessa's Tower--a dark tale of a spoiled, appearance-conscious princess kidnapped and locked in a stone tower. Her only companion is a scarred prince with foreign-colored skin. The prince harbors sorrow and anger because he watched his family murdered, and he doesn't want a family of his own. Tessa reaches out to him, rejected at first, but growing closer while she helps him battle their jailer, the Cold. The two start writing in the blank books left by the Keeper (a carved stone eagle who protects them). As they realize the power of words, they learn to love each other and eventually exchange vows. After the birth of their daughter, they escape the Cold and the tower, journeying into the world to join two warring kingdoms. This story is for ages ten and up. (approx. 17,000 words)
